Studio portrait of 6317 Private (Pte) Valentine Horace Foster, 21st Battalion. A water bailiff from Nyah, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Foster embarked with the 18th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Hororata on 23 November 1916. On 4 October he was killed in action in Belgium, aged 28 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.
