Description
Studio portrait of 2041 Driver Carl Richmond Hansen, 11th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) from Richmond River, NSW. An 18 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 28 September 1915, he embarked for overseas service with the 14th Reinforcements of the 2nd Light Horse Regiment from Brisbane aboard HMAT Wandilla (A62) on 31 January 1916. Shortly after arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 1st Light Horse Regiment and then in April transferred to the 11th FAB and went with them to France in June 1916. Driver Hansen was wounded in action at Delville Wood on 26 February 1917 and died from his wounds that same day. He is buried in the Guards Cemetery, Lesboeufs, Peronne, France.
