Description

Studio portrait of 3102 Private (Pte) Stanley Mortimer Freeman, 59th Battalion. A labourer from Briagolong, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Freeman embarked with the 7th Reinforcements, 22nd Battalion from Melbourne on HMAT Commonwealth on 26 November 1915. Initially transferring to the 57th Battalion, he later transferred to the 59th Battalion where, on 7 October 1916, he was killed in action aged 21. He was buried in the Rue-Du-Bois Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
