Studio portrait of 2038 Private (Pte) Leslie George Glassington, 56th Battalion from Zetland, NSW. A 19 year old driller with previous Militia service prior to enlisting on 25 March 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 3rd Reinforcements from Sydney on 23 June 1916 aboard HMAT Barambah. Following further training in England, he proceeded to join the 56th Battalion in France where he was killed in action at Louverval in the Somme Valley, on 2 April 1917. Pte Glassington is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
