Studio portrait of 5097 Private (Pte) Roy Charles Goman, 4th Battalion. A painter from Walcha, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Goman embarked along with his brother 5098 Pte Victor Abel Goman with the the 21st Reinforcements, 13th Battalion from Sydney on SS Makarini on 1 April 1916. Later transferring to the 4th Battalion he was killed in action on 16 August 1916 near Pozieres, aged 21, and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. Pte Victor Goman returned to Australia on 20 April 1919.
