Description

Studio portrait of 4790 Private (Pte) William Joseph Gordon, 58th Battalion from Albury, NSW. A 27 year old farmer prior to enlistment on 2 October 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 15th Reinforcements of the 6th Battalion from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wiltshire. After transferring to the 58th Battalion in Egypt, he joined that battalion on the Western Front. Pte Gordon was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 12 May 1917 and is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
