Portrait of 3747 Private (Pte) Leslie Russell Harper, 1st Battalion from Paddington, NSW. An 18 year old salesman of surgical instruments with previous service in the Naval Reserve, Sydney prior to enlisting on 16 August 1915, he embarked for overseas service with the 12th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard RMS Mooltan on 11 December 1915. Following further training in Egypt, he proceeded to France in March 1916 and was killed in action at Pozieres on 25 July 1916. Pte Harper is believed to be buried in the Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boisselle, Pozieres, France (his actual grave is unknown).
