Studio portrait of 2953 Private (Pte) Charles Alban Harris, 7th Battalion. Originally from London, England, Pte Harris was an engine driver from Sunshine, Victoria prior to enlistment, and embarked with the 9th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Star of Victoria on10 September 1915. Following service at Gallipoli, he then served in France where, on 15 February 1917, aged 30, he was killed in action and buried near where he fell, Following the Armistice his grave could not be located and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
