Portrait of 164 Private (Pte) Percy Eric Graham, 13th Battalion from Doncaster, Victoria. A 26 year old bootmaker prior to enlisting on 29 September 1914, he embarked for overseas service with B Company from Melbourne, Victoria aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 22 December 1914. Following further training in Egypt, B Company landed at Gallipoli under heavy fire at 9.30pm on 25 April 1915. Pte Graham was killed in action the next day and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey with others who have no known grave. Two of his brothers also served: 1721 Corporal Harry Drysdale Graham, 23rd Battalion was killed in action in France on 30 June 1916 [see image H06392] and 785 Pte Kenneth George Joseph Graham served in the 8th Battalion and returned to Australia.
