Studio portrait of 504 Private (Pte) William Patrick Harris, 5th Battalion from Albert Park, Melbourne, Victoria. A 24 year old stove fitter with over four years' service in the Militia, Pte Harris enlisted in the AIF on 17 August 1914 and embarked for overseas with C Company from Melbourne on 21 October 1914 aboard HMAT Orvieto. After further training in Egypt, he landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and was killed in action on that first day. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
