Description
Studio portrait of 1946 Private (Pte) Frederick William Greenwood, 14th Battalion from Jumbuk, Victoria. A 21 year old farm hand prior to enlisting on 16 January 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 17 April 1915 aboard HMAT Hororata (A20). While serving with the 14th Battalion at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action on 7 August 1915. After being evacuated to a hospital ship, he died and was buried at sea on 11 August 1915. Pte Greenwood is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
