Description

Studio portrait of 837 Private (Pte) Gilbert Rees Gurr, 40th Battalion. A shop assistant from Launceston, Tas prior to enlistment, Pte Gurr embarked with D Company from Hobart on HMAT Berrima on 1 July 1916. Whilst serving in France, he was killed in action on 15 April 1917, aged 23, and was buried in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France.
