Studio portrait of 881 Private (Pte) William Charles Hazzard, 41st Battalion from Richmond River, NSW. A 34 year old horse driver prior to enlisting on 8 March 1916, he embarked for overseas service with D Company from Sydney, NSW aboard HMAT Demosthenes (A64) on 18 May 1916. Following further training in England, he proceeded to France in January 1917. Pte Hazzard was wounded in action on 26 March 1917 and died from his wounds that same day. He is buried in the Pont-de-Nieppe Communal Cemetery, Nieppe, France.
