Studio portrait of 2430 Private Charles Henry Hicks, 57th Battalion from North Melbourne, Victoria. An 18 year old wood-turner prior to enlisting on 24 June 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 25 September 1916 aboard HMAT Shropshire. He was killed in action near Bullecourt, France on 12 May 1917 and is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
