Description

Studio portrait of 1533 Corporal Robert Minney Inwood, 10th Battalion from Broken Hill, NSW. A 19 year old labourer serving with the 82nd Infantry Militia prior to enlisting in the AIF on 19 December 1914, he embarked for overseas service as a Corporal with the 3rd Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Runic (A54) on 19 February 1915. After disembarking in Egypt, he joined the 10th Battalion at Gallipoli on 7 May 1915. Back in Egypt, he was promoted to Sergeant (Sgt) on 11 March 1916 and later that month went with the 10th Battalion to France. Sgt Inwood was killed in action at Pozieres on 24 July 1916 and buried in the Serre Road Cemetery No2, Beaumont Hamel, France. His brother was 506 Sergeant Reginald Roy Inwood VC [see image H06193].
