Studio portrait of 921 Private (Pte) Percy Jones, 39th Battalion from Bentleigh, Victoria. A 23 year old labourer prior to enlistment on 24 January 1916, he embarked for overseas with C Company from Melbourne on 27 May 1916 aboard HMAT Ascanius. After being wounded in action at Messines, Belgium, he died of wounds that same day, 29 March 1917. Pte Jones is buried in the Strand Military Cemetery, Ploegsteert, Belgium.
