Outdoor portrait of 1216 Private (Pte) George Charles Jude, 38th Battalion from Moonee Ponds, Victoria. A 22 year old gas meter tester prior to enlisting on 13 March 1916, he embarked for overseas with D Company from Melbourne on 20 June 1916 aboard HMAT Runic (A54). After a brief period of hospitalisation in England with measles, he joined the 38th Battalion in France where he was wounded in action near Armentieres. Pte Jude died of his wounds on 27 February 1917 and is buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France..
