Studio portrait of 2952 Trooper (Tpr) William Kemp, 3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment from Mount Gambier, South Australia. A 31 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 23 December 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 22nd Reinforcements from Melbourne on 9 October 1916 aboard HMAT Clan MacEwen (A65). On arrival in Egypt, he undertook further training before joining his regiment. After being wounded in action at the Second Battle of Gaza on 20 April 1917, he died of his wounds a week later. Tpr Kemp is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
