Studio portrait of 1144 Private (Pte) Leslie John Langdon, 11th Battalion from Melbourne, Victoria. A 28 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 28 September 1914, he embarked for overseas service with the 1st Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 22 December 1914. Following further training in Egypt, he was killed in action during the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
