Studio portrait of 3813 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Herbert Reginald Latimer, 46th Battalion from Essendon, Victoria. A 22 year old gas fitter prior to enlisting on 30 July 1915, he embarked for overseas as a Private with the 12th Reinforcements of the 14th Battalion from Melbourne on 23 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40). Following further training in Egypt, he transferred to the 46th Battalion and went with them to France where he was promoted to Lance Corporal. He was killed in action near Gueudecourt on 15 November 1916 and is buried in Bancourt British Cemetery, France.
