Description

Studio portrait of 980 Sergeant (Sgt) Harold Herbert Lawrence, 32nd Battalion from West Perth, Western Australia. A 21 year old salesman prior to enlisting on 7 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with C Company from Adelaide on 18 November 1915 aboard HMAT Geelong. After transiting through Egypt, he joined the battalion in France where he was mortally wounded in action near Guedecourt on 29 November 1916. Sgt Lawrence died of his wounds on 11 December 1916 and was buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
