Studio portrait of 141 Private (Pte) Robert (Roy) Loder, 35th Battalion. A machinist from West Maitland, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Loder embarked with A Company from Sydney on HMAT Benalla on 1 May 1916. Later transferring to the 9th Machine Gun Company, he was wounded in action on four separate occasions and promoted to Lance Corporal and awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. Following his promotion to Corporal he was wounded in action for the fifth time and was also gassed. He returned to Australia on 23 June 1919.
