Studio portrait of 2707 Private George McKay, 7th Battalion from Mansfield, Victoria. A 28 year old bootmaker prior to enlisting in the AIF on 2 August 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 24th Battalion from Melbourne on 27 October 1915 aboard HMAT Ulysses. He joined the 7th Battalion on 24 February 1916 and was killed in action on 18 August 1916 near Pozieres, France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial with other Australian soldiers who have no known grave.
