Pre war studio portrait of 424 Private (Pte) Ronald Stuart Main, 19th Battalion. A labourer from Richmond, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Main embarked with A Company from Melbourne on HMAT Ceramic on 25 June 1915. Following his service at Gallipoli, he went on to serve in France where he was wounded in action and evacuated to England. After recovering he returned to his unit and, on 27 February 1917, aged 22 was killed in action and was buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.
