Studio portrait of Private (Pte) Linden Alfred Mayne, 12th Battalion from Showport, Tasmania. A 25 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 4 August 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 10 November 1915. After arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 52nd Battalion and went with them to France in June 1916. Pte Mayne was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, Pozieres on 4 September 1916 and is buried at Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La-Boisselle, France.
