Studio portrait of 2071 Signaller Frederick Cyril Martini, 32nd Battalion from Rosewater, South Australia. A 20 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 11 October 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 3rd Reinforcements from Adelaide, South Australia aboard HMAT Miltiades (A28) on 7 February 1916. One month after disembarking in Egypt, he was admitted to hospital with tuberculosis and embarked to return to Australia on 11 May 1916. After arriving back in Australia he received medical treatment and was discharged from the AIF on 25 July 1917 as medically unfit for further service.
