Description
Studio portrait of 3867 Private (Pte) Alexander James McLaren, 8th Battalion from Boort, Victoria. A 19 year old timber trade worker prior to enlisting on 17 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 12th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 23 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ceramic. While serving on the Western Front, he suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and left foot at Hill 60, a low rise on the southern flank of the Ypres Salient in Belgium. Pte McLaren died of his wounds on 13 October 1916 and is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
