Studio portrait of 3838 Corporal (Cpl) Edward Frank McNaughton, 10th Battalion from Croydon, South Australia. A 25 year old clerk prior to enlisting on 9 August 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 12th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 2 December 1915 aboard HMAT Malwa. Following further training in Egypt, he served in France and then Belgium where he was killed in action at Passchendaele on 20-21 September 1917. Cpl McNaughton is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium with others who have no known grave.
