Description
Studio portrait of 3560 Private James Henry Mickels, 60th Battalion from South Melbourne, Victoria. A 30 year old labourer prior to enlistment on 29 September 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 8th Reinforcements of the 21st Battalion from Melbourne on 29 December 1915 aboard HMAT Demosthenes. He was wounded in action at Pozieres, France on 21 July 1916 and evacuated to England for medical treatment. He died from his wounds in hospital in England on 20 March 1917 and is buried in the Cowley (St Lawrence) Churchyard Cemetery, Middlesex, UK.
