Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Alexander Henderson Miller, 57th Battalion from Beechworth, Victoria. A 29 year old school teacher prior to enlisting on 15 July 1915, he embarked for overseas as a Second Lieutenant with the 3rd Reinforcements from Melbourne on 8 July 1916 aboard HMAT Ajana. After joining the battalion in France, he was promoted to Lieutenant and then killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 25 September 1917. Lt Miller is buried in the Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium.
