Studio portrait of 1586 Private (Pte) Norman Franklin Mintorn, 17th Battalion from Wollongong, NSW. A 20 year old clerk prior to enlisting on 20 April 1915, he had previously served with the 37th Infantry Militia. He embarked for overseas service with the 1st Reinforcements from Sydney, NSW aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 12 May 1915. [He is recorded incorrectly on the Embarkation Roll as Arthur James Mintorn.] After arriving in Egypt on 12 June 1915, he was taken ill and died of dysentery on 30 June 1915. Pte Mintorn is buried in the Cairo War Cemetery, Cairo, Egypt.
