Studio portrait of 4262 Private (Pte) Harry Frencham Moad, 8th Battalion from Glenferrie, Victoria. He was a 32 year old process engraver with 12 years membership of the Hawthorn Rifle Club prior to enlisting on 21 July 1915. He embarked for overseas service with the 13th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Demosthenes (A64) on 29 December 1915. After disembarking in Egypt, he proceeded to France in March 1916. Pte Moad was wounded in action on 5 July 1916 near Messines, Belgium and was evacuated to the 8th Casualty Clearing Station, Bailleul, France where he later died from his wounds on 8 July 1916. He is buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), Lille, France.
