Description

Studio portrait of 2741 Private (Pte) Clement Horace Moore, 50th Battalion from Unley, South Australia. A 19 year old warehouse assistant with previous service in the 74th Militia Infantry prior to enlisting on 24 May 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 8th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 2 September 1915 aboard HMAT Anchises (A68). As a result of an injury whilst at sea, he was hospitalised in Colombo and then repatriated to Australia. On recovery, he re-embarked with the 13th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 11 January 1916 aboard HMAT Borda. Following further training in Egypt, he transferred to the 50th Battalion and served with them in France and Belgium. Pte Moore was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 26 September 1917 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium with others who have no known grave. His older brother, 3729 Pte Frank Alexander Moore served with the 52nd Battalion and was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, France on 4 September 1916 (see image H06316).
