Description
Studio portrait of 137 Private (Pte) Roy Stanley Moore, 27 Battalion. A clerk from Glanville, SA prior to enlistment, Pte Moore embarked with A Company from Adelaide on HMAT Geelong on 31 May 1915. After serving at Gallipoli he was promoted to Lance Corporal and, whilst serving in France, he was killed in action at Pozieres on 4 August 1916, aged 24, and was buried near where he fell. Following the Armistice his grave could not be located. However in 1938 the remains of an unknown soldier were recovered and subsequently identified as that of L Cpl Moore. Following exhumation the remains were re-interred in the London Cemetery Extension, Longueval, France.
