Ramale Mission, Kokopo Area, New Britain. A group of Roman Catholic missionary priests comprising American, Irish, German, Dutch, Austrian, Belgian, French and Czechoslovakian, part of a group of 300 internees at Ramale Mission. the internees were liberated when troops of HQ 11 Division occupied the area following the surrender of the Japanese. Identified are: Father (Fr) Reischl MSC, (German) (1); Fr Nolan MSC, (Dutch) (2); Fr Murche MSC, (?German) (3); Fr Durkin MSC, (Irish) (later Bishop in South Africa) (4); Fr Herbermann MSC (?German) (5); Fr Theler MSC (?German) (6); Fr Kerskens MSC (?German) (7); Fr John Hoehne MSC (later Bishop) (8); Fr Jurgens (American, brought over from Solomon Islands) (9); Fr Leppen, Marist (10); Fr Merkens MSC, (German) (11).
