Studio portrait of 2545 Private (Pte) Alfred John Peart, 58th Battalion. An orchardist from Bairnsdale, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Peart embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Shropshire on 25 September 1916. Having already been wounded in action on a previous occasion, he was wounded for a second time and succumbed to these wounds on 25 April 1918, aged 26. He was buried in the Pernois British Cemetery, Halloy-Les-Pernois, France.
