Studio portrait of 2710 Private (Pte) Caleb Powell 59th Battalion. A gardener from South Melbourne, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Powell embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Nestor on 2 October 1916. On 13 May 1917 he was wounded in action at Bullecourt and, on 4 June 1917, aged 46, he succumbed to his wounds and was buried in the Wimereux Communal Cemetery, France.
