Studio portrait of 2504 Private (Pte) Ernest Preece, 56th Battalion. A labourer from Jeir, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Preece embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Aeneas on 30 September 1916. On 2 May 1917 he was killed in action at Bullecourt, France, aged 27 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
