Studio portrait of 6171 Private (Pte) John Quinlan, 25th Battalion from Toowoomba, Queensland. A 41 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 14 August 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 17th Reinforcements from Brisbane, Queensland on 27 October 1916 aboard HMAT Marathon. While serving in Belgium, he was wounded in action (gassed) on 4 January 1918 and evacuated for medical treatment but died that same day. Pte Quinlan is buried in the Trois-Arbres Military Cemetery, Steenwerck, France.
