Studio portrait of 3390 Lance Corporal John Flinders Robinson, 5th Battalion from Moonee Ponds, Victoria. An 18 year old customs officer prior to enlisting on 12 July 1915, he embarked for overseas as a Private with the 11th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 10 October 1915 aboard HMAT Nestor. While serving on the Western Front, he was wounded in action on 20 August 1916 near Pozieres, France and then again on 22 April 1917 near Lagnicourt, France. He died of wounds on 23 April 1917 and is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery, France.
