Studio portrait of 4642 Corporal Edwin Charles Skinner, 58th Battalion from Baringhup, Victoria. A 25 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 28 July 1915, he embarked for overseas as a Private with the 14th Reinforcements of the 5th Battalion from Melbourne on 28 December 1916 aboard HMAT Themistocles. While serving on the Western Front, he was promoted to Corporal on 20 June 1917. He was killed in action on 5 July 1918 near Ville-sur-Ancre, France and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
