Studio portrait of 3821 Sapper Robert Slessar, 6th Field Company Engineers from Pakenham East, Victoria. A 29 year old engineer prior to enlisting on 9 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 1st Reinforcements from Melbourne on 23 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ceramic. He was killed in action near Pozieres, France on 27 August 1916 and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
