Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Eric Wilkes Talbot Smith, 10th Battalion from Adelaide, South Australia, shown wearing an artist's impression of his Royal Military College uniform. A 22 year old professional soldier prior to transferring to the AIF, he embarked for overseas with F Company from Adelaide on 20 October 1914 aboard HMAT Ascanius. He was wounded in action during the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and evacuated to Cairo, Egypt where he died on 30 April 1915. Lt Smith is buried in the Chatby Military Cemetery, Egypt.
