Studio portrait of 919 Private (Pte) George Stenzel, 8th Light Horse Regiment from Boorcan, Victoria. A 21 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 24 December 1914, he embarked for overseas with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 7 May 1915 aboard HMAT Palermo. He landed at Gallipoli on 5 August 1915 and two days later was killed in action at Walkers Ridge on 7 August 1915. Pte Stenzel is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
