Studio portrait of 3120 Private (Pte) Cecil John Stoker, 13th Battalion from Uralla, NSW. An 18 year old porter prior to enlisting on 16 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 10th Reinforcements of the 1st Battalion from Sydney on 8 October 1915 aboard HMAT Warilda. After joining the 1st Battalion in Egypt on 6 January 1916, he transferred to the 13th Battalion on 9 March 1916 and held the rank of Corporal for three months. He deployed with the 13th Battalion to the Western Front, arriving in France on 8 June 1916. Three weeks later, on 29 June 1916 he was killed in action at Erguinghem, France. Pte Stoker is buried in the Brewery Orchard Cemetery Bois Grenier, France.
