Description
Vunapope, New Britain. Among Sisters and Priests evacuated from the Mission in Ramale Valley to Rabaul was Father Stherhag, the eldest of the Priests who has served in Missions for thirty six years. He is shown on the motor launch Gloria en route to Rabaul. Contact with the internees was made by Allied troops and representatives of the Australian Red Cross following the surrender of the Japanese. Identified on the left is Sister Jeremiah MSC.
