Description
Studio portrait of 7620 Driver Robert Thomson, 10th Company, Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) from Windsor, Victoria. A 20 year old coach painter prior to enlisting on 22 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements, First Australian Reserve Park from Melbourne on 29 September 1915 aboard RMS Osterley. After arriving in France in June 1916, he went absent without leave on two separate occasions but also was awarded the Military Medal in December 1917 for "conspicuous courage" in saving his horses and wagon on two separate occasions. He was killed in action on 15 April 1918 near Amiens, France and is buried in the St Pierre Cemetery, Amiens.
