Studio portrait of 598 Private (Pte) William Philip Turner, 1st Battalion from Paddington, NSW. A 24 year old station hand prior to enlisting on 29 August 1914, he embarked for overseas with E Company from Sydney on 18 October 1914 aboard HMAT Afric. While serving with the 1st Battalion at Gallipoli, he was killed in action at Lone Pine on 7 August 1915. Pte Turner is buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
