Description

Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) George William Twigden, 4th Field Company Engineers (FCE) from Manly, NSW. A 34 year old mechanical engineer prior to enlisting on 9 December 1915, he embarked for overseas with the FCE Reinforcement Officers from Sydney on 9 April 1916 aboard HMAT Nestor. On arriving in France, he joined the 4th Division FCE in the field. Lt Twigden was killed in action on 7 April 1917 near Bapaume, France and is buried in the Vaulx Hill Cemetery, France.
