Description
Studio portrait of 2708 Driver Victor Hugo Duckett Waine, 3rd Field Company Engineers from Barcaldine, Queensland. A 22 year old station hand prior to enlisting on 4 August 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 6th Reinforcements of the 26th Battalion from Brisbane on 21 October 1915 aboard HMAT Seang Bee. He was subsequently transferred to the 3rd Field Company Engineers and was wounded in action near Ypres, Belgium. He died of his wounds at Camiers, France on 19 September 1917 and is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
